  • Warm the milk until pleasant to touch, stir in the yeast, and let sit for 5 minutes.
  • Combine flour, sugar, butter, and egg in a bowl. Pour in activated yeast mixture and stir until a rough dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
  • Punch down the dough, fold in the mixed dried fruit and chopped nuts.
  • Shape the dough into an oval and, if using marzipan, place it in the center before folding and sealing.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the stollen for 35 to 40 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool, then dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
