  • Gradually add in 3 cups of water, whisking continuously until smooth. Over medium heat, add 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter and bring to a simmer, stirring constantly until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in 0.5 cup of fresh lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of lemon zest. Let cool slightly.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder, and 0.25 teaspoon of salt. Add 0.75 cup of granulated sugar and whisk to combine.
