For the Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup water room temperature
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs room temperature

For the Pudding Layer

  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding
  • 2 cups milk cold
  • a few drops orange food coloring optional

For the Topping & Decoration

  • 1 container Cool Whip
  • 1 cup sprinkles
  • 1 cup chocolate balls
  • 1 cup gummy body parts

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and prepare a small rimmed baking sheet by spraying it with cooking spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, 1 cup of water, ½ cup of vegetable oil, and 3 large eggs at room temperature. Beat the mixture on medium speed until smooth—about 2 minutes.
  • Spread the chocolate cake batter evenly across the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick.
  • Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the pudding mix with 2 cups of cold milk until smooth. Mix in orange food coloring if desired and refrigerate for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Take the cooled cake and lightly press the rim of your trifle dish into it to create circles.
  • Begin layering by placing your first circle of chocolate cake at the bottom of the trifle dish, followed by pudding, then Cool Whip. Repeat until full.
  • Decorate the top with sprinkles, chocolate balls, and gummy body parts.

Notes

Ensure the chocolate cake is cooled completely before layering to prevent melting of the pudding.
