Step-by-Step Instructions for Fudge

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of granulated sugar, ½ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, ½ cup of milk, and ½ cup of unsalted butter. Heat over medium heat while stirring continuously until the mixture reaches a gentle boil.
  • Allow the fudge mixture to cook undisturbed for an additional 4 to 5 minutes until it thickens.
  • Remove from heat and let cool for a minute. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and fold in 1 cup of chopped nuts if desired.
  • Pour the fudge mixture into a greased 8-inch square pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  • Let the fudge cool at room temperature until fully set, about 1 to 2 hours, before slicing into squares.
