  • Pour 1 ½ cups of boiling water over 1 cup of old-fashioned oats in a mixing bowl. Allow to soak for about 20 minutes.
  • Mix soaked oats with 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 cup of granulated sugar, ½ cup of melted unsalted butter, 2 large eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually add 1 ⅓ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, ½ teaspoon of nutmeg, and ½ teaspoon of salt to the wet ingredients. Fold gently.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Melt 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in ½ cup of brown sugar and ¼ cup of evaporated milk. Bubble gently for 3 minutes.
