Preparation Steps

  • In a small bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour and the remaining sugar until uniform.
  • Add the milk, large egg, and softened butter to the dry ingredients along with the yeast mixture.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 to 15 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 90 minutes.
  • Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
  • Spread Nutella evenly across the dough and sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
  • Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 6 equal rolls.
  • Place the sliced rolls in a greased baking pan with a splash of heavy cream, cover, and let rest for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 374°F (190°C) and bake the rolls for 15 to 17 minutes until golden brown.
  • Brush the tops with melted butter immediately after pulling them from the oven.
