  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Hot water or hot coffee Coffee adds richer flavor
  • 1 cup Roughly chopped Oreos For texture and flavor

Oreo Buttercream Frosting

  • 1 cup Softened butter At room temperature
  • 3 cups Powdered sugar Sifted to avoid lumps
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoon Cream or milk Use heavy cream for a luxurious touch
  • 1 cup Finely crushed Oreos Remove filling before crushing

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tin with 12 paper liners, placing a whole Oreo at the bottom of each.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
  • Add milk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth and creamy.
  • Pour in hot water or hot coffee gradually while stirring until just combined to activate the cocoa.
  • Fold in roughly chopped Oreos gently, ensuring they remain distinct.
  • Spoon the batter into prepared cupcake liners, filling each about three-quarters full.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, and check for doneness with a toothpick.
  • Cool cupcakes in the tin for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • In a separate bowl, whip softened butter until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until smooth, then stir in vanilla extract and cream/milk until fluffy.
  • Carefully fold in finely crushed Oreos until evenly distributed.
  • Once cooled, frost cupcakes and decorate with mini Oreos or halved Oreos.

Notes

Allowing cupcakes to cool before frosting is crucial to avoid melting the frosting.
