  • Melt ¼ cup of unsalted butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Combine the melted butter with ½ cup of brown sugar. Pour this mixture into a greased 9-inch round cake pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle 1 cup of pecans on top.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the remaining ¼ cup of softened butter and ¾ cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Gradually beat in 2 large eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon of salt. This ensures even distribution of leavening agent.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed butter mixture, alternating with ¾ cup of milk. Mix until just combined, about 1-2 minutes.
